Great water falls

This particular wonder among the 7 wonders of the world, and is located at Southern part of Africa. As the Zambezi River flows, and crosses the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, its waters descend 355 feet to form what is known today as the Victoria Falls. The waterfall was named in 1855 by Scottish world explorer David Livingstone.Victoria Falls

This amazing water fall was named after Queen Victoria, the then reigning English monarch. However, it has an indigenous name, Mosi-oa-Tunya or “The Smoke that Thunders” is still in use locally. Feeling superimposition, in 2013, the government of Zimbabwe announced plans to officially rename the falls to Mosi-oa-Tunya.

Be that as it may, Victoria Falls is not the highest or the broadest waterfall on the planet.  But, upon considering both attributes, it qualifies as the largest.

The Zambezi River flows across a flat plateau that extends hundreds of kilometres in all directions. It is here that one will find the largest waterfall in the world.

Victoria Falls is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, stretching 1.7 kilometres wide and shared by the countries of Zambia and Zimbabwe. The falls are formed as the full width of the Zambezi River plummets into a 108 metre high cleft. During the wet season, the spray from the falls can be seen nearly 50 kilometres away, hence driving the local name Mosi-oa-Tunya (the ‘Smoke that Thunders’).

The falls drop into a deep, narrow chasm, which is connected to a long series of gorges. This unique form allows the falls to be viewed face-on 60 meters away from the opposite side of the gorge.

Aurora can be viewed from many different locations around the world. The higher the latitude, the more likely you are to see them. The Northern Lights effect results from charged cosmic particles entering and interacting with the Earth’s atmosphere. These northern polar lights appear seasonally from September to October and March to April. The Aurora Borealis is in commemoration of the Roman goddess of dawn. Aurora is the Greek name for the north wind, called Boreas. Therefore, the Aurora Borealis is more or less a tautology.

It is often seen as a greenish glow or occasionally a faint red. For the fact that particles are involved, the lights are shaped by the earth’s magnetic field. The lights are constantly changing and evolving. The Cree call this phenomenon the “Dance of the Spirits.”
